Prospective Faculty FAQ's

What is the current rate of pay?
$8.50 each for 20-minute lessons, and $24/hr for all other lessons. Class rates are $27, $30, and $40. The IRS gets its cut, which benefits the faculty, as they do not pay self-employment tax on this income. Pay is biweekly.

Are there opportunities for students and faculty to perform?
Each CMS site offers monthly Spotlight Recitals as well as a Fall Festival and a Share-A-Thon in the spring. Students are encouraged to perform often to improve their skills. Faculty are expected to perform to keep up their skills, though it need not be at the CMS.

Will I be evaluated?
The CMS evaluates faculty by observation and family feedback.

When can I start?
It is sometimes hard to get started in your teaching studio if you live out of town and have a high minimum number of students you require to make the trip. Our business is a demand business, and even names on a waitlist do not guarantee students.

Can I teach at any CMS site?
When hired for CMS, you are welcome to teach in any site without another interview, if the need for your services arises.

Are faculty paid for missed lessons?
Faculty are paid for a lesson they miss when it is made up. If a student cancels, the faculty is paid when the lesson was scheduled, and are asked to make up one student-canceled lesson per semester per student, schedule permitting. Faculty are paid for no-shows, and the lesson is not made up. There are make up weeks at the end of Fall and Winter semesters, and other times can be arranged as well.
